He is a classy young guy, and his musical brilliance is that he can make the world of flamenco guitar sound so fresh and modern while echoing the great guitarists of the past in his breath-taking virtuosity.

Renan Farias and Bruno Menezes

Musicians Renan Farias and Bruno Menezes were born in Rio de Janeiro and have loved the music of Brazil as long as they can remember. Both began their musical lives when they were children by playing the Brazilian cavaquinho, an instrument that captures the sound of the samba. Farias continued playing and studying the cavaquinho (a smaller, 4-stringed version of a guitar) with Ian Guest in Rio’s Cigam School of Music while Menezes switched to classical guitar and studied at the Escola de Musica Villa-Lobos, the music conservatory founded by the famous Brazilian composer, Hector Villa-Lobos. The duo play widely throughout the region. For “Bravo Brazil!” Farias and Menezes will be performing traditional Brazilian folk music as well as the edgy and up-to-date Brazilian songs that can be heard today in Rio’s popular cafes and clubs.
